REEF OR
SQUARE KNOT
This is the classic
method for making the
reef knot. which is one
of the knots that a good
sailor should know.
even though it should
only be used for making
temporary joints in
identical lines which
will not be subject to
strain. It consists mainly
of a half knot followed
by another, making sure
that the standing parts
come out on the same
sides as the ends. It is
generally made on small-
and medium-diameter
rope and is easy to
remember because it is
so simple.
