HANGING
       ACABLE

       When a cable has been coiled.
       it should be tied off so that it
       can be hung tidily to take up
       less room. Hanging the rope
       also helps it to last longer and
       means it can be used
       immediately when it is
       needed.

       Method
       Coil the rope (see page 18).
       leaving an end of a yard or
       more and make a good long
       bight (1). Wind this bight
       once clockwise around the
       top of the coil (2). pass it
        under its own standing part
       and pull taut (3). Continuing
        in a clockwise direction.
        repeat the same operation (4,

        5). Photograph 6 shows the
        final result: the two turns are
        tightly drawn up. and the coil
        can be hung up tidily. Make
        sure that none of the turns
        comes away from the coil
        when you are securing it. If
        they do, it is better to start
        again from scratch.
