PROMISE OF OPPORTUNITY
Amidst severe controversy and widely divergent views, the Government
of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the People’s Republic of China is
in the process of constructing an extension of the Colombo Central
Business District. It is expected to be an economic and commercial hub
for the country. In May 2021, The Parliament of Sri Lanka approved the
Port City Commission Bill to establish the Port City Colombo.
While it is expected that there will be international interest in investing
in the project, controversy has arisen because it is unclear to some as
to whether this enclave will be governed by a separate independent
authority, with its own special Colombo financial court.
