CSHA-AB President’s Message
On behalf of the CSHA Alberta Chapter board of directors, I would like to welcome you all to this very special symposium.
As the centenary of the inception of the Canadian Sport Horse Association approaches in 2026, the Alberta Chapter was looking for a way to celebrate 100 years of registering horses for sport in Canada.
A series of symposia seemed like a very worthwhile endeavor. To engage our equine community; breed- ers, owners, trainers alike with informative, and hopefully, transformative opportunities is our goal.
This journey began with a casual conversation with John Madden at the back gate of the International Ring in September of 2021. Planning started in February and has been gathering steam ever since. Many thanks go to our hosts and CSHA breeders; Jim Ifko and Rachel Cornacchia and the whole Even- tyre Team for the use of their fabulous facility and all their help in getting this event to where it is today.
I am passionate about breeding in Canada. If you are breeding horses in Canada, register them with a Canadian studbook. Papers are a birth certificate, a recordation of when and where the individual was born and who its parents were. Having papers from a Canadian Studbook doesn’t change your horse’s lineage, if it has desirable bloodlines and performs well, it will sell itself. When a horse is registered in an offshore studbook the money goes out of the country to support breeders in the country of origin of that studbook, it does not aid breeders in Canada. Be a Champion of Canadian breeding and choose a Canadian Studbook for your horse and help grow our equine industry. We have so much to be proud of!
The Alberta Chapter is hosting a Central Inspection for stallions and mares, and a foal grading at Ford- ville Farm in Priddis on Sunday, October 02, 2022. If you are interested in presenting a mare or stallion for breeding approval or a CSHA registered foal for grading, please reach out to the National office csha@canadian-sport-horse.org or to the Provincial directors at canadiansporthorsealberta@gmail.com.
