A Brief History of Time has gained a masterpiece position in the eld of scienti c literature over the years since its rst publication in 1988. It has been translated into forty languages and has gained a huge international reputation by being printed over nine million copies.
The book was written by taking into account the latest informa- tion we learned about the nature of the universe at that time. On the other hand, there have been extraordinary improvements in the observation technologies of
both the subatomic world and the universe on a large scale from that day to this. These new observations were such as to prove most of the theoretical predictions that Pro- fessor Hawking had made in the rst edition of the book. These observations include also the last ndings of the COBE satellite, Cosmic Background Explorer, which inves- tigated after-300,000 years from the beginning of the uni- verse and determined the ripples in the space-time tex- ture that Hawking proposed its existence.
Wishing to add new information that we obtained from his latest research and latest observations to his unique text he wrote, Hawking has not written only a new foreword for the last edition of his book, but also updated his book by writing out a very impressive new episode about worm- holes and time travel.
