Turku
Şehir, tarihte Finlandiya’nın başkentliğini yapmış olma özel- liğine sahip. 1200’lü yıllarda bölge İsveç Krallığı’na bağlıyken başkentlik yapmış. Rus savaşlarında bölge Rusların eline geçince Turku St. Petersburg’a uzak olduğu için başkenti Helsinki’ye taşımışlar. 1218 yılında Helsinki, Finlandiya’nın başkenti olmuş. Bugün de hâlâ önemli bir şehir Turku. Ülke- nin en büyük limanlarından birinin bu şehirde olması burayı ayrıca önemli kılıyor. Gemi yapımında dünyanın önde gelen şehirlerinden Turku tersanelerinde dünyanın en büyük ge- misi yapıldı. Ayrıca turizm bakımında da gelişmiş. Helsin- ki’ye gelen turistlerin muhakkak gelip gezdiği bir şehir.
Finlandiya’nın en eski şehri Turku, Baltık Denizi’ndeki bin- lerce takımadaya açılıyor. Kutuplara yakın olduğu için kış boyunca karanlığın her tonunu doyasıya yaşayan, yazın ise beyaz gecelerin hüküm sürdüğü Turku, 13’üncü yüzyıldan 1827’deki büyük yangına kadar altın çağını yaşayan bir şehir olmuş.
Kordon boyu Turku da muhakkak görülecek yerler ara- sında. Öyle güzel, öyle ferah ki kordon boyu, insanlar çevresinde yürüyüş ve piknik yapı-
yor, çevresindeki kafe ve restoranlarda
zaman geçiriyorlar.
Özellikle Cruise’larda yemek ye- mek çok meşhur burada. Turist- lerin alacağı birçok aktivite yine bu şehirde kendini gösteriyor. Kanolarla nehirde gezmek, bot turları yapılacak aktivitelerden.
Turku Meydanı’nın da şehirle
aynı adı taşıyan bir katedrali bu- lunuyor. 1300’lü yıllarda yapılmış olan katedral bugün hâlâ kullanıl- makta. Uzun çan ve saat kulesiyle katedral birçok yerden görülüyor.
Başkent Helsinki
Finlandiya da birçok şehirden bahsettim ama başkent Hel- sinki’den hiç bahsetmedim. Yaklaşık 800 bin kişilik nüfusa sahip olan Helsinki ülkenin eğitim, sanat, kültür ve finans merkezi. Nüfus yoğunluğunun çoğu burada yaşıyor.
Helsinki turistlerin keyifle gezdiği, şehir içi ulaşımını rahat- lıkla sağladığı yer. Şehirde toplu taşıma büyük ilgi görürken bisiklet kullanımı ve scooterlar da oldukça yaygın. Yereller, ücretsiz olarak bisikletlerden istifade ederken turistler de yarım Euro’ya bisiklet kiralayabiliyorlar. Scooterlar da çok yaygınlaşmış. İnsanlar kredi kartı ile scooter kiralayarak istedikleri her yere gidebiliyorlar. Zaten şehrin en büyük özelliği her yere bisiklet yollarının olması. İnsanları bisiklet kullanmaya yönlendirecek birçok sebep var şehirde. Yapılan araştırmalarda Avrupa’nın en temiz havasına sahip ülkesi Finlandiya seçilmiş.
Finlandiya enine boyuna keşiflerle dolu olan bir şehir. Her şehrinde ayrı bir zenginlik var. Çocukların keyifle 4 mev- sim tatil yaptığı Finlandiya muhakkak görülmeli.
Turku
The city has been the capital of Finland in history. In the 1200s, when the region was part of the Swedish kingdom, it served as the capital. During Russian wars, when the Rus- sians dominated the region, the capital moved to Helsinki. Because Turku wasn’t near to St. Petersburg. In 1812, Hel- sinki became the capital of Finland. Today, Turku is still an important city. Since it has one of the biggest ports of the country, it is still an important city. The world’s largest ship was built in Turku shipyards, one of the world’s leading cities in shipbuilding. Also it is a developed city in terms of tour- ism. It is definitely a city that tourists visit when they come to Helsinki.
Finland’s oldest city, Turku, connects to thousands of archi- pelago in the Baltic Sea. Being close to the poles, Turku ex- periences every shade of darkness during the winter while white nights dominate the summer. Turku lived its golden age since 13th century until the great fire in 1827.
You shouldn’t miss a promenade on the seaside in Turku. The seaside is so beautiful, so spacious. People are walking around and picnicking, they spend time in the sur-
rounding coffee shops and restaurants.
Particularly eating on the cruise is very popular here. Many activities that tourists will be interested are available in this city. You may tour around the river with canoes
and boats.
Turku square also has a cathe- dral with the same name as the city. Built in the 1300s, the cathedral is still in use today. The cathedral can be seen from many places with its long bells
and clock tower.
Capital Helsinki
I mentioned many cities in Finland, but we did not mention the capital Helsinki. Helsinki is even the capital of the northern countries. With a population of about 800,000, Helsinki is the educational, artistic, cultural and financial center of the country. Most of the populations
live in this city.
Helsinki is a place where tourists can travel with plea- sure and the transportation is easily granted. While public transportation attracts great interest in the city, the use of bicycles and scooters is quite common. While locals ben- efit from bikes for free, while tourists can rent bicycles for half a euro. Scooters are also very common. People can go anywhere they want by renting scooters with credit cards. Already the biggest characteristic of the city is that it has cycle paths everywhere. There are many reasons to en- courage people to use the bicycles. According to the re- searchers, Finland has selected as the country that has the cleanest air in Europe.
There are many things to explore in Finland. There is a dif- ferent richness in every city. Finland, where children enjoy the holiday for 4 seasons, is a location that must be seen.
