P. 3

Welcome to Issue 19 of Christians United for Israel UK’s Torch
magazine.
The UK owes its legacy of Christian Zionism to men and women who remained faithful
to what the Bible teaches about Israel. Two brothers, John and Charles Wesley, will always be regarded as two of England’s most influential church leaders who are best known for their founding of the Methodist Church. But many may not be aware that they were very much Zionists. We take a look at what shaped John Wesley’s love for Zion. We also explore some
of Charles’s hymns that embody these great truths and how, in a climate of hostility towards Israel, they serve as reminders that the Bible is still the best foundation in understanding the importance of Israel.
Also in this issue, we pay special tribute to Sir David Amess MP. Sir David was a friend of Israel and
the Jewish people. You will read of his personal efforts in Holocaust education and how he spoke out against the Iranian regime. I am sure that as you read our article you will join me in expressing
Des Starritt
deep admiration and appreciation for a man whose life was so tragically cut short at the hands of terror.
Meanwhile, the article ‘Island
of Silence’ uncovers the largely unknown mysterious events that took place on the Channel Island of Alderney. Many will be aware how the small island became a bastion for Nazi Germany, but did you know that it was also the location of the only concentration camp on British soil? We uncover the scale of the Nazi operation on the island with some newly released findings, and reveal how tens of thousands of inmates, including Jews, were executed or died under slave labour.
Stories like this need to be told today, which makes the efforts
of Chelsea Football Club even more significant. We explain how the Premiership club is going the extra mile in Holocaust education and combatting anti-Semitism as well as its commendable efforts in building bridges between Jews and Arabs through football.
We hope you enjoy the magazine and will feel led to share with others. Thank you for your continued support for CUFI UK.
