Memories in the Living Room
Des and Remeny Starritt, the directors of CUFI UK, were invited by the Israeli Embassy in London to attend a “Zikaron BaSalon”, or “Memories in the Living Room” event.
Here is what Remeny had to say:
“A Zikaron BaSalon is an annual event around the Israeli Holocaust Memorial Day where Jewish families open up their homes inviting other family members and friends to meet and listen to a Holocaust survivor.
Every year there is a reducing number of people who were alive during this dark time in history. It is important for us to hear their stories so we remember and can teach future generations.
We had the privilege of meeting Susan Pollack MBE, who is a survivor of Auschwitz.
Susan spends her life speaking to young people about her experience during the Holocaust.
She is a remarkable woman,
composed yet not afraid to share her feelings and how she deals with those dark and desperate memories that sometimes haunt her. How she as a child became separated from her parents who she never saw again and how she lost so many of her family. I felt so moved to see her draw on divine inner strength to overcome such a living horror and then retell it over and over again so people like us remember.
We were so touched by this experience that we are looking to see how we can either host a Zikaron BaSalon event for CUFI members in the future or have some videos from survivors to share their stories to our followers online.
We believe this is important as we find ourselves fighting that same anti-Semitic spirit here in UK and Europe all over again that our forefathers fought against. That
is why we fight so hard through Christians United for Israel to tackle anti-Semitism and keep the memory of the Holocaust alive.”
CUFI in Scotland
In May, CUFI went to Stirling, Scotland, for a day of talks on how Christians are called to bless Israel and the Jewish people; how the Church in Britain must reconnect to its Jewish roots, as well as taking an in-depth look at the threats facing Israel.
Thank you to all those who came. We had lots of great interaction with people and encouragement from the messages being delivered. We all came away inspired to stand even stronger for Israel both in Scotland and across the UK.
We hope you can join us at future events. These are great opportunities to connect with like-minded Christians who love Israel. Visit www.cufi.org.uk/ events for more details.
Does your church have a heart for Israel and the Jewish people? We invite you to become a CUFI Associated Church and join a growing network of churches that are standing with Israel. We believe that Britain’s stand with Israel begins with the Church. Your church’s
partnership with CUFI enables us to make a real difference in our nation. Furthermore, CUFI would like to support you and your congregation in making a strong stand for Israel in your community.
