Blowing the shofar
At the end of the week that peace between Israel and the UAE was agreed, Yehuda Sarna, Chief Rabbi of the UAE, blew the shofar overlooking Dubai to welcome in the Jewish New Year, or Rosh Hashanah.
In Bahrain, the Jewish community there marked the anniversary of Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass, for the first time ever. The disused synagogue in Manama — the only one in the kingdom, was illuminated at night “to shine light over the darkness of hate.”
Nobel peace prize?
Both Prime Minister Netanyahu and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The nomination was made by Lord David Trimble who won the prize himself in 1998 for helping broker peace in Northern Ireland.
