BBC was founded on the Bible
At CUFI, we have a Biblical mandate to defend Israel and the Jewish people. To do this, we must ensure the truth is heard. This is more than just simply speaking the truth; we need to ensure the truth reaches those who need to hear it. It also includes challenging lies.
In this update, we’d like to share with you some of the latest ways in which we are helping to spread the truth about Israel.
Our most recent campaign involves challenging the distortions of the media when it comes to reporting about Israel. The BBC has sadly allowed its airwaves to be tainted with anti-Israel rhetoric over recent years, an issue which many of you have raised concerns about.
We have all noticed how stories about Israel, particularly surrounding the Israel-Palestinian conflict, are depicted to reflect negatively on Israel. We especially expect better from our national public broadcaster. And as the most influential voice in British broadcasting, we know their narrative is negatively impacting viewpoints in sitting rooms around the country and even the world.
CUFI’s latest campaign is helping to push back against the lies and distortions that are shamefully being aired on the BBC, and I encourage you to read more about the campaign inside this update and get involved with it.
As with many of our campaigns, we are more focused on amplifying the truth than we are about silencing those who disagree with us. The same cannot be said about those who oppose Israel. Instead, they spread misinformation and try to silence those they disagree with through fear and intimidation.
We reported in November that Israel’s ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely, was targeted by this hatred. Ambassador Hotovely was invited to speak at the
London School of Economics (LSE) where she shared about the situation in the Middle East. Outside the event, hundreds of students and activists waved Palestinian flags and chanted anti-Israel slogans. Shamefully, there were groups who were part of this demonstration who were calling on their supporters to smash the windows of the ambassador’s car and discussed trying to scare her away.
As the ambassador left the building, an angry mob shouted abuse at her, and some tried to physically reach the ambassador. Police officers held the protesters back and Israeli security quickly evacuated the ambassador to her car and away from danger.
The Israeli ambassador is a welcome guest in our country. Israel is a close ally of Britain. There is no way Ambassador Hotovely should have been treated in such a way and it is shameful that those involved have not apologised. Rather, there were celebrations by those involved, and thousands celebrated their apparent achievement online.
The video of the incident is shocking but was especially disturbing because it happened to take place on the 104th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the “Night of Broken Glass”, when the Nazis smashed and burned Jewish businesses and synagogues, imprisoned thousands of Jewish men, and brutally beat many, with some being killed simply because they were Jewish. It was a tragic event that marked the beginnings of the Holocaust.
Israel is today the world’s only Jewish state. The same hatred that fuels the anti-Israel narrative is the same one that burned inside the hearts of the Nazis. It is deeply disturbing that this open hatred of Israel is spilling out onto the streets of Britain’s capital.
Thankfully, Ambassador Hotovely spoke out after the incident praising the police and her security, and
    We will not be silent
