Hello to all, as I am writing this, Monday 14 , Jude and I are in the last few days of quarantine. It ends
Friday morning. Unfortunately, we will not be attending Thursday’s social meeting. I have been doing RAT’s
every day and every day I have been negative. Go figure!
On to things Fleurieu. Mikey is now the editor in chief of The Whaler and I have no idea of the format. He
simply sent me the header and said do something with the rest of the page. Firstly, as the State lifts more
restrictions, we will follow suit, keeping in mind that the safety and welfare of you the members will always
be the committee’s first concern.
On to things happening this year. Mikey sent a Comm’s out today outlining several major events this year,
so I am not going to rain on his parade. Just a comment about a couple. Rainman’s ride (on a forecast fine
26 ºC) will end at Chris and Bob’s place a Goolwa. This will be the last time it ends there as Chris and Bob
are relocating to Crystal Brook. Chris and Bob are very dear to our hearts and will always be Fleurieu Branch
members. Maybe an overnighter for next year’s soup run?
I am so happy that the Beast feast has been moved to June as the March date clashed with our bike trip
to Tassie. The Comm’s outlined the four ways to return your meal request. As far as payment is concerned,
EFT is the preferred method. If you must pay with cash, please have the correct amount. I will issue the
tickets.

Our 20th anniversary is on Monday June 13 . The ride is on the Sunday. So, the question is, do we have
th
an anniversary dinner on Saturday the 11 , or do we combine it with the Beast Feast the weekend before?
What are your thoughts, let me know.
I don’t know how fuel prices will affect our rides, but I do know, after working at Adelaide Refinery for 30
years, that putting the wrong octane fuel can have adverse effects. Some think that putting in a higher
octane boosts economy, runs cooler, gives more power ETC. No it does not. However, putting in a lower
octane than your bike is designed for can cause problems. Your bike has a certain compression ratio and
the recommended fuel is vital for correct ignition. Lower octane can cause pre-ignition or knocking which
can damage your pistons and valves. Most of our bikes run 95 ron, 98 is simply wasting money. 91 can kill
your bike!! Don’t get me started on E10.
Cheers All, Brett.
