March 2022 Exhaust Notes - Edition No 311
After a frustrating two years of ride and event cancellations due to COVID-19, we have come
back as a very vibrant and active Branch. Just looking back over the last month or so we
th
have had a full program of rides and events. For example, February 6 saw a strong Geelong
th
contingent at the Ararat Ride to Remember. Straight after that on 8 Feb, Mark led a really
interesting mid-week ride to Sunbury, including a stop at the site of the rock festivals of the
th
1970’s and Billy Thorpe’s memorial. February 20 saw many members up early and
supporting the Geelong Ironman which is a major fundraiser for us. Again, my thanks to all
and I urge you to check out the photos on our Forum and also consider volunteering to assist
next year.
th
th
March 5 and 6 the Geelong Branch had a stand at the Geelong Revival in an attempt to
raise the profile of the club and attract new members. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a fizzer
due to the bad weather and the less-than-ideal site that we were allocated.
th
March 9 saw Peter Townsend leading a great ride to Timboon. Again, I urge you to check
out Peter’s entertaining Ride Report and pictures of the Branch Forum in the ‘Ride Reports’
section.
Looking forward, we have a full calendar of organized Wednesday and Sunday rides, (see the
Ride Calendar for specifics) and some special riding / social events such as the Koroit
overnighter and the Pyrenees Peregrination overnighter. In the background there are also the
informal Wednesday coffee rides and the regular Saturday morning “Tyre Kick” at the bay end
of Yarra Street. There genuinely is something for everyone and ride distances to suit all levels
of ability and stamina. Please note as per the most recent ride calendar that the details of the
th
forthcoming ride on Sunday 20 March have changed.
th
Don’t forget our Social Meeting this Wednesday 16 March at the Charles Hotham Hotel.
Meals and socializing from 6.00pm and the meeting commences at 7.00pm. Now that the
COVID restrictions are behind us and we can get out and socialize, we’d love to see you
there!
Ride safe.
Cheers Jules.
