A Great Adventure by Mike Smith

The crossing of the Nullarbor is to some people a
daunting prospect. It is a long journey for sure however
with the correct preparation it is an enjoyable and
                              rewarding experience.

This article is aimed at those riders not used to doing
500 kilometres or more a day and would regard a
couple of hundred Km’s without a stop as unusual.

It is also aimed at those who may have had some medical issues and may be
wondering if they are able to handle it.
I have crossed the Nullarbor Plain on three return trips, in all kinds of weather,
during the last 9 years and have never had a problem.

When we went over to the Coffs Harbour event I was 67 and I have had my share
of medical issues over the years. I like many others in the Club am a cancer
survivor and I have heart problems as well. Some people reckon I don’t have one
however I can assure you there is one there even if it is a little dodgy!
I have therefore taken the liberty of putting together a few suggestions for
others to consider. Some are ideas that I have picked up on and in many cases
ideas that have been suggested to me by some very experienced long distance
        riders.

I have grouped them together into three groups, one for the bike, one for the
rider/pillion and one for the journey.
