Your friend Lisa is smart and kind. You two have been very good
friends since the fifth grade. Lately, she hasn't handed in her homework
on time, and her grades have dropped. Yesterday, when she walked past,
you smelled cigarette smoke. As her close friend, you sensed something is
going on with her. You then talked to her to find out whether she needed
some help. The following is what you said to her.
"Lisa, what's going on with you? You're getting terrible grades, and
you aren't doing your homework. Yesterday, you even smelled like you
smoked a pack of cigarettes. What's wrong with you?"
Lisa didn't want to talk to you after that. It is clear you said
something wrong. How can you do better? Here are some tips to help you
improve the way you talk to people.
