Vision & Mission
Beaver Street Enterprise Center is a 25,000 square feet professional office facility offering modern
workplace amenities for startup and existing small businesses as well as business technical assistance,
counseling, mentoring and assistance in marketing and obtaining business financing. The center is
geographically positioned to stimulate economic growth in Jacksonville’s northwest neighborhoods and
is run by non-profit Core City Business Incubators, Inc. as an initiative of FreshMinistries.
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Ten years ago, the FreshMinistries and the Beaver Street Board of Directors embarked on a courageous
undertaking to create a state-of-the-art business facility and a comprehensive set of professional
advisory services that would accelerate the rate of both start-ups and high growth entrepreneurship
ventures in Jacksonville’s core city area. We turned to the community with a vision that would more
than transform the community, adding our first three pioneer companies and a resource and support
infrastructure that is second to none. The community responded enthusiastically with an investment
of dollars, time and resources.
To the hundreds of business executives, government officials, academic leaders and professionals who
helped make this project a reality, I wish to extend my deepest appreciation. Today, the BSEC enjoys
the most diverse mix of client companies in its history, and we celebrate not only the admission of
over 75 new companies, but the graduation of thirteen (13) successful enterprises since that grand
opening in 2003.
The BSEC guides business clients through the business process and assists them with the
administrative, sales finance, legal and marketing efforts necessary to launch their products into the
marketplace. In recognition of our efforts, the National Business Incubation Association in 2010
recognized BSEC with its highest honor as International Incubator of the Year in the Services and
Manufacturing category.
Client companies successfully generated more than $100 million in revenues and attracted capital
loans and other investments. The creation of over 1500 jobs contributes to the region’s economic
growth. These jobs, resulting from the growth and success of BSEC companies, will continue to fuel
Jacksonville’s economic growth in the years ahead and provide area businesses with opportunities to
form relationships with young and growing professional firms.
While our programs have evolved and expanded over our first 10 years, behind the scenes have been
all the unsung heroes contributing to this growth and success. The ongoing support, energy and
expertise of our volunteer board, our committed staff and network of business advisors and our host
of public sector partners continues to be valued and appreciated as we continue our commitment
to the people of Jacksonville by contributing to a diverse economy and an environment where small
business can thrive.
Additionally, words cannot convey how proud I am of the small but dedicated staff that fulfills this
promise on a daily basis. Their commitment to our clients, added to the unbridled passion of the
entrepreneur, catalyzes BSEC’s formula for success.
In 2014, BSEC will have grown by adding a second location adjacent to the original facility. This new
space accommodates additional business incubation members who have innovative, scalable ventures
that have the potential to grow into a stage two venture with revenues of $1M or above. It will also
allow for the addition of advanced entrepreneurial training programs. We hope that we will continue
to benefit from your support as we continue to spearhead the effort to establish Jacksonville as a
leading center for innovative and leading-edge companies.
