German U-Boats operating in the North Atlantic. For this,
she earned the Bletchley Park badge (gold with a small blue
globe in the centre), given to those whose work helped
crack the German Enigma code.
After working primarily in graphite for many years, Elaine
Goble began incorporating egg tempera, a quick-drying,
long-lasting medium that she felt suited her highly realistic
style.
According to Elaine, her conversations
with Doris revealed that she was “’[a]

lobbied throughout her adult life for
equal rights for women in the military
