Upcoming special Masses and remembrances
This picture was taken last month outside an Edi-
son Park tavern.
May it remind
you that you are
loved and your
work is appreciated
by the good, God-fear- ing, law-abiding,
tax-paying, respectful and respectable citizens of this city. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe as you continue doing God’s work.
In case you have this magazine in hand in time, we’ll be moving our regular second Sunday (Oct. 13) Mass this month from Mercy Home to St. Juliana Parish. This is because the Chicago Marathon runs past Mercy Home, prohibiting access there.
Also, there will be a Blue Mass at St. Thecla Parish on Oct. 20. More details on these two Masses can be found on the home page of our website: www.ChicagoPCM.org.
Thanks to all who attended last month’s Candlelight Vigil at Gold Star Families Memorial and Park. It was a wonderful way to remember the 585 Chicago Police Officers who have died in the line of duty over the years.
Thanks also to the hundreds of Brotherhood for the Fallen supporters who attended last month’s Blue Tie Gala. It was an honor to serve as host at this third annual evening of elegance. Funds raised by the Brotherhood help ensure that the CPD is represented at funer- als of murdered police officers around
the U.S. and Canada.
Planning ahead, on Nov. 19, we will
mark the one-year anniversary of Of- ficer Samuel Jimenez’s death at Mercy Hospital. He will be remembered in a special way at the police Mass the fol- lowing Sunday (Nov. 24) at 11 a.m. To accommodate the anticipated crowds,

beyond our comprehension.
We learn to admit when we are wrong and that building
bridges instead of walls helps clear the way to forge ahead. We learn to be thankful and to take comfort in many of the simple things we take for granted, things that millions of peo- ple upon the earth can only dream about: a full refrigerator, clean running water, a soft warm bed, a long hot shower. Our
job, a paycheck, even though it might not be perfect.
And we hang a wind chime outside our window so we can listen to the wind. And we make it a point to keep smiling,
keep trusting, and keep looking up to see the stars.
Finally, with courage in our heart and with spirit by our side we take a stand; we take a deep breath, and we make the most
with of every day.

Sam’s memorial card — and many others — can be
downloaded from our website: www.ChicagoPCM. org.
Also next month, we will celebrate a special Thanks- giving Mass on Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. at Mercy Home, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd. (note the change in Mass time for the
holiday).
Chaplains ministry challenge coins are still available, with the most recent mint honoring our fallen officers. Order them online by clicking the “Merchandise” link at www.Chi- cagoPCM.org. The coins are also available at the FOP store on Washington Boulevard and the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation store at headquarters.
When looking for a business to patronize, be sure to check out the “Links” page on our website. There you’ll find many police-owned and police-friendly businesses who support you and would appreciate your business in return. If you have a suggestion for an addition to this page, please let me know.
Finally, do you shop at Amazon.com? Please designate “Po- lice Chaplains Ministry Fund” as your Amazon Smile charity, and our vital ministry will receive .5 percent of your purchas- es at no cost to you. It’s a great (and painless) way to support our work.
God bless you and keep you safe!

Enjoy the gift of life; that’s why we call it the present.
Thanks to all of you for the sacred work that you do. Your chaplains pray for you and give thanks every day for G-d giv- ing us all “second chances” and then some. Should you wish company for a ride-along or if you have some humor to share, give us a call. Thanks.
On behalf of all your chaplains, may G-d bless you and keep you safe, today and always.
A special shout-out to all members of my flock of the Jewish faith: “Shanah Tova.” Have a blessed, safe and happy new year.
Amen.
