Officers, students come together to celebrate new school year
After saying goodbye to summer, kids around Chicago returned to the classroom just after Labor Day for a new school year.
Chicago Police Officers were there to greet them and reestablish important relationships that help build strong communities. Officers also did their part to get ready for the year with various events and outreach efforts.
Third District
Youngsters returning to the South Shore Fine Arts Academy arrived on the first day of school to find Third District officers waiting for them with smiles and signs of encouragement.
15th District
Sometimes getting students to school can be a challenge — that’s why 15th District officers were working the phones to give families friendly re- minders to ensure that their children started off the new school year on the right foot.
11th District school resource officers met with local principals at district headquarters to collaborate on the best plan for a successful year for stu- dents in the community.
12th District
Officer Friendly Day at Perez Elementary School included a visit from the 12th District bike unit and CAPS officers. A few days earlier, the bike squad handed out popsicles to students after school.
CAPS officers joined with Wentworth Gardens community members in the Ninth District for a back-to-school cookout that included food, fun and a Michael Jackson impersonator.
