tacked from the get-go to force a pair of standing eight-counts on his foe. The referee stopped the fight in the third round when Geraghty landed a solid right hook that staggered firefighter Jeff Moore.
Vazquez scored the lone knockout of the night with a reper- toire that included quick feet and even quicker shots that took their toll on his opponent. A third-round flurry put firefighter Mike Agostenelli on the canvas, setting off an excited celebra- tion for Vazquez and his supporters who greeted him with hugs, kisses and handshakes outside the ring.
“I felt good. I had my wind. I saw that every time he rushed, he left his body open. When I clipped him twice, he raised up his guard and I went to the body,” said Vazquez, a 14-year vet- eran who works TAC in 014. “The fighting is fun, the winning is fun, but at the end of the night where the money is going to, that’s what it’s all about. Everything else is just a good time.”
Myles, who fights in the amateur ranks, was inspired by what he saw and expects a rebound for CPD in 2019.
“We’re gonna be back,” he said confidently. “We’re gonna try harder.”
Maldonado and Vazquez sounded equally enthused for next year.
“I want my win. I’ll definitely be back,” Maldonado said with a smile.
Vazquez hung around after his fight to serve as a corner man for his teammates. He extended his advice toward preparations for next year by suggesting aggressive approaches and a will- ingness to respond to hits with counterpunches.
No matter how the training goes, Vazquez knows CPD will be prepared next time around.
“We’ll bring it,” he said strongly. d
