Enforcers stay unbeaten, focus on Bauer tribute
n BY NICK SWEDBERG
In its home opener on April 21, the CPD Enforcers, the de- partment’s football team, improved its record to 3-0 with a win against the San Diego Enforcers.
The CPD Enforcers raced out to a 24-10 halftime lead at Lane Tech, thanks to a pair of Chris Pazan touchdown passes and a pick-six by rookie linebacker Pierre Meeks. A defensive battle in the second half yielded just one San Diego touchdown before the final horn sounded to keep the CPD unbeaten in the Na- tional Public Safety Football League.
As part of National Police Week, the Enforcers were set to host the 13th Annual Gold Star Bowl on May 12 at St. Ignatius College Prep with a non-league game against the Inland Empire Enforcers.
The game took on special meaning as the CPD Enforcers have dedicated their play to Commander Paul Bauer and, in a partnership with Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, the creation of a scholarship in his name. The Enforcers also introduced a specially created challenge coin that will be available for sale at the game. A portion of the sales will go toward the scholarship.
“The Enforcers believe there is no better way to honor Com- mander Bauer’s legacy than to help a child in need receive an
education,” the Enforcers stated on their website.
Beyond game day, the challenge coins can be purchased at various city locations. Details are scheduled to be posted to cp- denforcers.com. Donations can also be made to the Command- er Paul Bauer Memorial Scholarship fund at Mercy Home’s
website: www.mercyhome.org/bauerscholarship.
The Enforcers will close out the regular season on June 2 against the CFD Blaze in the annual First Responders Bowl at
Brother Rice High School. d
