That family includes many children who have seen their fu- tures bolstered by CPMF’s dedication. Elizabeth O’Reilly, the daughter of 20th District Sergeant Philip O’Reilly, spoke poi- gnantly about her father, who died in 2003. She read tributes written by loved ones, colleagues and friends after his untimely death.
“A split second and our lives changed,” said O’Reilly, who is currently a senior in college. “I feel profound humility for what life is. It is a gift. My dad’s life was a gift to us.”
Although Philip O’Reilly’s death left a void, CPMF’s commit- ment to families was obvious in the young woman’s words.

rial Foundation creating a tribute to our fallen officers and the catastrophically injured,” she added. “I want to thank the CPMF for the Catholic education my brother and I received. The foun- dation also continues to support me at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, as I work toward my degree in business.”
She closed by emphasizing, “I pray for peace for the families of the fallen officers.”
Cline marveled at the impact the youngest members of Gold Star Families have made with CPMF as volunteers in a variety of roles with the foundation. They’ve stayed engaged, even raising
