The recognition that does make a difference often comes from the Lodge, and it doesn’t always need to be in headlines. From the President’s Report to Casiano’s acknowledgement of Jacobucci’s heroics on page 10 to many of the other articles from FOP 7 representatives, they all offer ongoing recognition in Lodge 7 Magazine.
“It’s a two-fold purpose,” Casiano says of his reason for taking care to mention the achievements. “One is that it gives an opportunity to present and acknowledge mem- bers who are doing a good job. I also know the officers aren’t the only ones reading. It also gets out there to some of the politicians and Department leaders.”
And one of the most lasting forms of recognition for offi- cers has proven to be the Distinguished Service, Valor and Lifesaving Awards Lodge 7 presents at many of its month- ly members meetings. The commemorative plaques, the cheers and the recognition from peers isn’t even the best part of these awards. If you’ve ever been there or seen the pictures, it’s the opportunity to have family members present – mothers, fathers, spouses, children – that makes this recognition so rewarding.
Casiano says from his view standing on the dais when the Officer Awards are presented, he always looks out into the audience for the family members smiling, reactions that offers the appreciation for mom or dad coming home late or not being there for a big event.
