Letters of Commendation
Here is a sampling of the letters President Angelo received following his presentation to the City Club of Chicago:
Mr. Angelo,
Many thanks for a great speech which you gave at the City Club of Chicago earlier this week.
While not an officer myself, I come from a police family with two brothers, a niece and several cousins having been or still are on the force.
I agree completely with your statements and think that the people of the city have to better support the police if there is to be any hope of reducing crime and the current level of gang killings. As you stated, the police are basically being tested by individuals daily with the ap- parent hope of a video going viral or a cash settlement of some type.
Coming from a police family, we were always told to respect the police and give them our full cooperation. Even my friends who were not from this type of background still respected the local officers in our area. Local leaders need to show more support for the police and advise their followers to follow suit.
In any event, thank you for saying what needed to be said. If there’s ever a plan to have citizens show up for a sign of support for the po- lice you can certainly count me in!
Best regards,
Jim A.
Dean,
Nice job at the City Club. You presented yourself and our brothers well. In this time of upside-down politics you stood tall. Keep fighting! Sincerely,
James M.
Hi Dean,
Just read your remarks from the City Club of Chicago. Good stuff... needs to be said.
We blurted about it on our website and Facebook as well. Things are tough out there for LE right now but Chicago is dealing with an unprecedented level of hostility, as you’ve outlined.
Hope all is well, otherwise.
Best, Scott E.
Sir,
I would like to take this opportunity to commend you on your straightforward presentation of the facts as reported in the article about your City Club presentation. You consistently relate the “meat” of the issue without waffling. I am proud that you represent me in this storm of words that pounds us every day.

Mr. Angelo,
I am merely a resident of Chicago, although I am now a permanent resident of the state of Florida. (I still spend the majority of my time in the city.)
I am an avid supporter of what your men and women do every day.
I recently saw you in an interview on a local TV station, forgive me for not remembering the channel or the show, BUT I do remember YOU. You did a fantastic job representing the FOP and explaining in a very detailed manner exactly what your members are up against.
I just finished reading the Chicago Tribune and saw that you spoke yesterday at the City Club and once again YOU were terrific in stating the facts.
I know you probably get a lot of letters from detractors but YOU de- serve a huge compliment for the way you are now speaking out. I had long wondered why you were not out publicly when the facts were being distorted. If you were before, forgive me for not noticing, but more important is for you to keep doing what you are doing because the reality of it is the MAJORITY of citizens of the city of Chicago are very supportive of our men and women in Blue.
Blue lives DO matter.
Thank you again! Jan F.
Mr. Angelo,
I just read your remarks made at the City Club earlier this week. I agree from my citizen’s perspective there is an unjustified lack of re- spect for Chicago police (and all police) these days that is disturbing, and I agree it is largely media-driven.
I just wanted to write to remind you there are many millions of us out there nationally who do respect and appreciate the tough job being done by your members every day; we’re just not the ones being interviewed on television. I live in a suburb bordering Chicago, and I’m a tradesman who works and spends much time otherwise in the city, and I will always voice support for Chicago police and police officers elsewhere, performing some of the toughest jobs in society. Thanks,
Ken K.
