Family A ili y hits
a hole in one
at 6th Annual G f Outing
Together with the help of the Chicago Police Detectives Association and retired Chicago police officer and Lodge 7 Pension Fund Trustee Ken Hauser, the Family Auxilia- ry had more than 200 golfers attend the 6th Annual Golf Outing on June 22 at the Bloomingdale Golf Club to re- member fallen officers and raise money to support Chi- cago’s finest.
“Our motto is ‘never let them walk alone.’ My board members and I try to do as much as we can to help,” ac- knowledged Family Auxiliary President Angie Haynes. “Seeing all of the officers and supporters out on the golf course means they recognize us and hopefully they will keep recognizing us as part of the police department and part of the union.”
The Family Auxiliary hosts the event to fundraise for its scholarship fund, which gave out seven $500 awards last year to Lodge 7 members’ children and hopes to give back even more this year.
The golfers hit the links in the morning at a shotgun start and enjoyed 18 holes of golf before gathering for a pig roast feast.
No golf outing is complete without a raffle, so the Fami- ly Auxiliary auctioned off restaurant gift certificates, a 49- inch television and two golf bags with clubs, which were donated by the Patrolman’s Credit Union and the Family Auxiliary board.
The Family Auxiliary board members decided to liven up the day with a spin on the traditional awards. In ad- dition to noting the longest drive and closest to the pin, Haynes and the board awarded the worst golfer and the worst foursome with prizes.
“The retired officer who had the worst score was the only person out there,” joked Haynes. “Everyone gets something for being the best so we thought we would do something for the worst. I haven’t heard one complaint and I know everyone had a good time.”
Every golfer walked away with a memento from the day – a framed photo of their teammates – and none of it would have been possible without the contributions from the board members, the support of the Chicago Police Detectives Association and Pension Fund Trustee Hauser.
“Kenny Hauser helped us a lot by getting monetary donations and the president of the Chicago Police De- tectives Association helped by organizing the foursome
teams,” recognized Haynes. “The Auxilia- ry board works very hard to support this event and every year it’s a lot of fun and a great success.”d
