Lodge 7 Health Fair brings the care to members
Chicago Lodge 7 hosted a Health Fair at the FOP Hall on June 15 in conjunction with the medical profession- als from Loyola University Health System who ran com- plete blood work, vision and hearing tests and an over- all physical examination for members.
“Traditionally police officer’s work is a 24-hour a day business and a lot of times people are working mid- nights or afternoons and their sleep patterns are off and their eating patterns are off,” noted Chicago Lodge 7 Field Representative Tom McDonagh, who organized the event. “In our profession, more than any, we need to monitor our bodies and our health especially because of the stresses police officer work brings on the mem- bership.”
Partnering with Loyola University Health System pro- vided 59 members with the opportunity to speak with medical doctors at their convenience, which is an add- ed bonus.
“We started bringing the Health Fair to the Northside, Southside and at the FOP Hall and spread it out so it was more easily accessible,” acknowledged McDonagh. “The members are very happy that we’re bringing the
Health Fair to them because they’re not always able to get down to the West Loop.”
Lodge 7 plans on scheduling two more Health Fairs by the end of this year, one in the 22nd District and anoth- er in the 17th District. d
