Police Officer Matthew Palmer
On Sept. 11, 2018, Officers Sean Mc- Dermott and Matthew Palmer were working in the 22nd District when they responded to a call of a newborn baby not breathing. Upon arrival, the officers were met by a hysterical family member with the baby in her arms. While Officer Palmer calmed the family, Officer McDermott began chest compressions. The baby was re- vived and began crying. The baby was transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Chica- go Lodge #7 presents Officers Sean McDermott and Matthew Palmer with Life Saving Awards.
Police Officer William P. Grossklas Jr.
On July 12, 2018, Officer William P. Grossklas Jr. responded to 82nd and Wentworth, where there was a call of shots fired. Upon arrival, he discovered three victims who had been shot. He directed his attention to an 82-year-old man who had been shot in the neck. He removed his LEMART kit and applied a trauma bandage to control the bleeding. Officer Grossklas then noticed that the victim had stopped breathing and began CPR until the arrival of paramedics.
The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was stabilized. He surely would have perished without Officer Grossklas’ aid.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Chi- cago Lodge #7 presents Officer William Grossklas with the Life Sav- ing Award.
