42 CHICAGO LODGE 7 ■ JULY 2020
15th District
3rd District
Cops in the Community
Usually summer in Chicago means street festivals, sports galore and an overall coming alive of neighborhoods and the lakefront. Things are certainly different in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but what hasn’t changed is how Chicago Police Officers continue to stay connected with their commu- nities through simple acts of kindness and support that go be- yond the badge. And residents have shown their appreciation for it, too.
It’s the little things that mean a lot sometimes — and 15th District Officers Brandon Gipson and Kevin Brand proved it. The pair helped a visually im- paired senior citizen make it across the street to catch his bus and be on his way one June afternoon.
In 003, officers joined the festivities for Mrs. Rogers’ 100th birthday cele- bration by dressing up one of the district’s vehicles with a “Happy Birthday” banner and taking part in a parade that traveled past her home and added to the neighborhood party. Officers in the 3rd District also distributed free face masks to residents during a positive loitering and community cook-out event at 71st Place and Woodlawn in June. Residents young and old took advantage of the warm weather to grill out and enjoy music, games and fun.
