Turkey giveaway feeds 75 families in the 007
For more than 20 years, 7th District CAPS officers have teamed up with local community groups, churches and charities to make Thanksgiving a bit better for low-income families.
This year was no different, as approximately 75 families had warm meals thanks to a turkey giveaway put together by the district and Believe In Thine Heart Ministry on South Ashland Avenue.
“The CAPS office is trying to do a lot more to bridge the gap between the community and police,” said Officer Rod
McClain. “We actively seek out ways to engage the commu- nity and other organizations.”
Turkeys were given out to members of the Believe in Thine Heart Ministry community as a way to help make that im- portant connection, he said.
“We want to ensure that we, as police, reach out to every- body,” McClain said.
The dozens of turkeys given away were donated by local community organizations, and the event is one of many put on with the help of Faleesa Square, according to McClain. d
