  A renewed sense of cooperation
Governor J.B. Pritzker has delivered his budget address, and the General Assembly is in session working on hundreds of bills. The legislature will be in session most weeks from now through the end of May, when they are scheduled to adjourn. There is a renewed sense of working together af- ter the four years of fighting during the Rauner administration. While there will still be disagree- ments, most legislators are eager to move Illinois forward.
On police issues, we are working on legislation regarding body cameras, pensions, detective lineups and many others. In addition, there are many bills that we are opposed to in 2019. Like other years, some ideas get proposed that just would not be good for policing. We are working with senators and repre- sentatives and their professional staffs on these issues.
Governor Pritzker has appointed Brendan Kelly, who had been the St. Clair County State’s Attorney, to be the new director of the Illinois State Police. The governor continues to make ap- pointments to his cabinet, including State Representative Linda Chapa LaVia (D-Aurora) as his director of Veterans Affairs and former Republican State Representative David Harris of Arling- ton Heights as the new director of the Department of Revenue.
We will continue to work on behalf of the men and women in blue on legislation of importance to the Chicago Police.
