On Oct. 23, 2018, Beats 1912 and 1915 responded to a ma- rine distress call of a person in the water at Lake Shore Drive and Belmont Avenue. Officer Endri Peci of 1912 arrived on the scene, where he found the victim in the water, desperately trying to keep herself from drowning. He scaled the guardrail and reached down to assist the woman, as Beat 1915 arrived to assist.
Officer Peci was able to grab the victim and pull her up onto a narrow ledge adjacent to the water. Officers Nicholas John- son and Matthew Gill then assisted Officer Peci in lifting the
victim over the guardrail to safety, where they awaited the ar- rival of the CFD ambulance.
It was later learned that the victim had been going through a difficult time in her life and was suffering from depression. The victim was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hos- pital and is expected to make a full recovery.
It is with great appreciation that Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 presents Officers Endri Peci, Nicholas Johnson and Matthew Gill with the Life Saving Award.

On May 26, 2018, the nominated officers were working a four-man car under 1561B for the Memorial Day weekend. They responded to a ShotSpotter call and observed two of- fenders sitting on a porch adjacent to the address of the ini- tial call. The officers approached the offenders to initiate an investigatory stop; one of the offenders then jumped off the porch and fled.
During the course of the chase by the officers, one of the offenders raised his weapon and pointed it in the direction
of the pursuing officers. In fear for his life and the lives of his fellow team members, Officer Christian Szczur discharged his service weapon, striking the offender multiple times. The of- fender was subsequently placed into custody and the offend- er’s firearm was recovered on the scene.
