Teen honors fallen officers with personalized bears
A 17-year-old woman from Florida visited Chicago in June to deliver four special Blue Line Bears to the children and families of Officers Conrad Gary, Samu- el Jimenez and Eduardo Marmolejo.
Using fabric from uniforms worn by the three men, all of whom died in the line of duty in 2018, Me- gan O’Grady created cuddly keepsakes that provide solace for the families and a unique way to preserve the officers’ connection to law enforcement.
She met with the officers’ families during an event at the Calumet District headquarters.
The daughter of a police officer, O’Grady started Blue Line Bears when she was just 14. Since 2017, she has traveled around the country, delivering approxi- mately 450 hand-sewn bears to the families of fallen first responders and members of the military in 36 states.
Her aim is to bring comfort to the officers’ children through this tangible reminder that their loved ones are always with them.
