Cops and the community
December marked the end of a tumultuous year, but it didn’t mean the end of Chicago Police Officers doing their part to make a difference for the city. Most of that involves keeping people safe, but as is exemplified time and time again, a lot of relationship building comes from celebrating a special birthday or simply lending a hand to those in need.
8th and 10th districts
3rd District and Mass Transit Unit
Milestone birthdays don’t get any bigger than turning 100. So when Ms. Kathy hit the century mark, the 8th District made sure to stop by to deliver flowers to her in the Oak Lawn neighborhood. Meanwhile, 10th District of- ficers paid a surprise visit of their own to celebrate a World War II veteran’s 95th birthday with a card, balloons and a cake.
A mild start to the win- ter doesn’t make anyone in Chicago forget about the inevitability of bit- terly cold temperatures and snow. That’s why of- ficers in the 3rd District and the Mass Transit Unit took part in two Opera- tion Warm events around the city aimed to provide coats, gloves and hats to community members needing these vital items.
20th District
Members of the 20th District tactical team took a proactive ap- proach to public safe- ty recently when they spent time riding the Red Line to meet pas- sengers to talk — and share flyers about — staying safe on public transportation.
