I absolutely LOVE White Orchids. I paint them quite a bit in a variety of media. This is a fun and easy method of painting them that translates well to almost any surface. These techniques are simple and work up really quick. Have some fun with it! Change up the color palette if you like, or add some paper to the background or use different stamps. You really can’t go wrong with this and it will make your finished piece uniquely yours.
BACKGROUND
The background to this piece is done in several stages, starting with a base coat of Lamp Black over the entire surface. It does not have to be fully opaque, one coat should do the trick. Let it dry then sand lightly to smooth the surface. Wipe to remove any dust. If the base shows through, it’s ok.
Apply one coat of Warm White horizontally, and in one direction across the surface. It should be semi opaque, and
a little streaky looking. I use the 1/2 encaustic brush as it has a coarser bristle, but a chip brush or anything with a stiffer and irregular bristle will do the job admirably. Some of the black should be showing through the White, giving the surface a
