In 2007 when I returned from a mission trip to Mongolia the first thing my mother-in-law, Ida, showed me was her new rose. Three months later she passed away from an unexpected illness. The first year after her passing it bloomed on her November 4th birthday and it blooms each year on the day of her passing, October 10! I moved the rose to my house, then four years
ago I took this rose with me when I moved and think of her when it blooms.
PREPARATION
Measure in 1 1⁄2" around the canvas with the ruler and draw the lines with the large or fine end of the Identi-pen. Trace the design onto tracing paper. Transfer the design onto your canvas. The lower leaf is against the line and the right leaf just touches it.
INKING
There are three steps to the inking process, and it will take about 75 percent of the overall time involved in this project. It is important that you relax, take your time and enjoy creating the dimension of this piece. Also keep a paper towel under your hand to prevent the oil from your skin getting on your surface.
Step 1: This is also your pattern, and shows the lines you will draw using the size “fine” or larger nib of the Identi-pen. Pull your lines in a smooth, fluid motion noticing where your stroke will travel before you touch the nib to the canvas. You do not want to rest the nib on the canvas or it could create a spot.
