 PAINTING
Step 1: Apply the basecoat (Can labeled: Bondcoat Step #2) with any angled house paint brush that you are comfortable with. Apply the basecoat going one direction. You will see brush strokes on your surface. Apply a second coat if you are using a dark surface. Let dry completely.
Step 2: For this step you will use the Decorative Glaze (Step #3 from your kit.) Make sure you have cleaned your brush after applying your basecoat. Use a very small amount from your lid on the tip
of brush. Start at one corner and apply random vertical stokes on your surface.
Step 3: Hold gauze to make a puffy ball like shown in photo. Lightly go over the surface, removing excess paint and blending it into your surface.
Step 4: Again, begin at one corner with your brush and glaze. Apply glaze to create
depth to resemble distressed wood. You will then remove excess with gauze. Remember when removing excess to also remove in the same direction as you applied the glaze. The harder you press with your gauze the more you will remove.
STEP 5b
Step 5: Continue same technique
to cover the entire surface. You can
apply glaze with the brush stroke
method and add interest by blotting glaze with tip of brush.
Tip: It is easier to start light and add glaze than it is to remove glaze.
FINISHING
After completely dry you can apply the topcoat in the kit.
This product is very durable and can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menard’s and Ace Hardware.
Make It, Teach It, Share It, is a special little gift given to our valued members by the SDP Staff. In this issue we want to look at the popular trend of turning “trash to treasure!” Everywhere we look we see examples of rejuvenated vintage furniture and customized flea market finds. Instead of throwing out
that tired end table, let SDP's Miho show you this simple technique to upcycle your furniture in two seperate projects. This project uses the top of the spindle legged table to give it a fresh new look. The same refinishing technique is used on an old end table with the door removed to make a cute puppy bed that duals as an end table. In this issue you are getting a three for one project because SDP's Miho has also
designed a Bohemian Vibe feather that anyone can paint on any surface to bring color and flair to your décor.
