the lightest grass color paint in the top of the grass area. This will give the look of sun shining on the grass.
The tall brown blades are pulled upward with Raw Um- ber on the no. 10/0 liner. The small blades at the tips of these are Raw Umber. When the tall brown blades are dry, pull Yellow Oxide up the right side of each, to give the look of sunshine on the blade.
CATTAILS
Basecoat these with the Dark Burgandy on the no. 4 or 6 shader. Now tap in Burnt Umber+tch Titanium White on the cattails. Make them as light as you would like. Al- low water-thinned Dark Green to puddle in the engraved notches near the cattails’ grass reeds. It will sink into the engraving, which will allow for a better color. When this is dry, you can lighten this color, if desired.
BASIC COLOR MIXES
Vanilla: Titanium White+Yellow Ochre+Hansa Yellow (4:1:tch)
Dark Green: Yellow Oxide+Raw Sienna+Pine Green+ Phthalo Blue+Carbon Black+Titanium White (2:1:1:tch:tch)
Medium Green: Dark Green+Diarylide Yellow+Titanium White (1:1:tch)
Light Green: Medium Green+Diarylide Yellow+Titanium White (1:1:tch)
Denim: Cerulean Blue+Carbon Black+Titanium White (2:tch:tch)
Flesh: Titanium White+Quinacridone Gold+Hansa Yellow (4:2:tch)
Paint the grooves etched into the bottom of the plaque with water-thinned Burnt Umber. The groove at the top of the plaque is Diarylide Yellow. Basecoat the outside edge of the plaque with Burnt Umber. Allow it to dry and then ap- ply a second coat. While it is wet, use the oval wash to tap in Diarylide Yellow and Hansa Yellow. The more you tap in, the more the colors will blend and tone down. If you overblend, simply add a touch more of either yellow.
FINISH
When the entire piece is completely dry, apply one coat of DecoArt Traditions Satin Varnish, according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Light Red: Red Violet+Titanium White+Medium Red (2:2:1)
Burgundy: Napthol Red Light+Red Violet+Burnt Umber+ Titanium White (3:3:1:2)
Dark Burgundy: Red Violet+Napthol Red Light+Burnt Umber+Titanium White+Ultramarine Blue (5:3:3:2:2)
