Decorating trends have brought back to life the antique handicraft of forging. Forging is accom- plished by hammering hot iron, which requires great
precision and skill. Back in the day, forging was used to fabricate guns, home utensils, and tillage. Today, forging is used around the world to decorate furniture, home décor, sculptures, lanterns, and so on. In this project, we’ll imitate forging with a bit of paint and a sponge.
FAUX FORGING
Apply Lamp Black to the surface to be “forged,” using a synthetic brush and making sure the paint covers every groove of the fretwork. Let dry, then apply another coat of Lamp Black.
Pour a bit of Viridian Green onto a palette, then thin the paint with water. Dip a damp sponge into the paint mixture, then tap it on a paper towel to remove excess paint. Tap the sponge over the surface without covering it entirely with paint. Smoothen the coverage using the opposite side of the sponge, which should be kept clean.
