PREPARATION
Sand the surface in the direction of the wood grain. Remove dust with a tack cloth. Dampen the cheesecloth with corn oil and rub along the sides, bottom, and the smaller board (the one that pops out); avoid the top sur- face. Let dry overnight. Apply a coat of the DecoArt Multi-Purpose Sealer to the top of the board. Let dry.
Use the large foam brush to basecoat along the top edges and the 1"flat wash to basecoat the board with Oyster Beige. Use long strokes with the flat wash. Dampen the foam brush with water and squeeze excess water onto a paper towel. Lightly load one side of the foam brush with paint and lay it flat to basecoat along the edges. Sand between coats. Apply DecoArt Faux Glazing Medium and let dry. Apply DecoArt Americana Drying Time Ex- tender to the surface, making sure not to leave puddles. Lightly dip a piece of cheesecloth into Burnt Umber. Start rubbing from the edge, working in- ward in a circular motion to achieve a distressed look. Let dry. Repeat the distressed process, if desired. Apply DecoArt Faux Glazing Medium and let dry. Trace and transfer the design onto the board.

PAINTING TIPS
n Unless otherwise indicated, use the brush best suited to the area being painted.
n All details are painted with the no. 10/0 script liner. When using the script liner, use paint the consistency of ink. Roll the tip on the palette to thin the tip for finer lines. Add a few drops of De- coArt Easy Float to the clean water to assist with shading and highlighting.
n Dampen the area you are working in with De- coArt Americana Drying Time Extender instead of water for floating and blending to allow for a longer open time. Try to avoid puddles.
n Use a mop brush to remove water lines and to soften floating and highlighting.
