ACRYLIC
For this basket, measure up 2" (5.1 cm) from the bottom, and then mark a horizontal line that goes all the way around the basket. Apply painter’s tape above that line, encircling the entire basket.
Apply Lamp Black to the 2" (5.1 cm) band. Do not re- move the tape yet. When the black is dry, start on the back of the basket where the wood pieces connect and apply a piece of vertical 3⁄4" painter’s tape. Seal it well with your fin- gers and a credit card. Now measure 1⁄2" (1.3 cm) next to it and apply another piece of 3⁄4" tape. Continue this pattern all around the basket. If you don’t start at the back, you will end up with uneven stripes on the front. Seal the tape with Lamp Black. Let dry, then basecoat the 1⁄2" (1.3 cm) areas with Snow White. Let dry, then remove all the tape. Thin Margarita with water and using a no. 1 script liner, make one wavy line along the Peony Pink background and stripes. When you get to the end, make another wavy line that goes along with the first one, kind of like vines.
FINISHING TOP OF LID
With the largest angular shader, float along the outer edges and behind some items with Burnt Umber. When all is dry, varnish with DecoArt DuraClear Satin Varnish. It will take several layers to get the fabric to feel satiny. Sand lightly between the layers of varnish to achieve the right result.
BOTTOM OF INSIDE
Cut a piece of cardboard that will fit the inside of the basket’s bottom. Glue batting on this, and cover it with the same fabric used on the lid, gluing or stapling the fabric into place on the back of the cardboard. I hot glued the lace to the outer edge of the covered cardboard. When the entire bottom piece is laid inside the basket, the lace fills in the gap between the cardboard and the side of the basket nicely.
