LET’S PAINT
Basecoat the following:
Lamb: Warm White
Flowers: Taffy Cream
Stems and leaves: Foliage Green
Line up your tracing paper pattern and transfer the details of the flowers and lamb using the blue transfer paper.
Unless otherwise noted, all shading and highlighting is done using clas- sic sideload or floating technique using flat or shader brushes. Remember that shaded areas are those that recede, are behind or in tight spots. High- lights are areas that advance (like lamb’s forehead, nose and chest) or are catching or reflecting light (like top of lamb’s head and back). Refer to pho- tos for clarification.
DETAILS
Sapphire: Using large flat brush, shade around entire lamb.
Melon: Shade inside ears. Wash over the nose and mouth area.
Lamp (Ebony) Black: Paint eyes. Notice they are different shapes because of the angle of the lamb’s head – so don’t try to make them identical! The lamb’s left eye (that’s on your right side as you’re looking at the lamb) is smaller because you see less of it since his head is turned.
Grey Sky: Using scruffy brush, stipple shadows on lamb. Sideload a small flat brush and deepen shadows under the chin, on the right side of lamb’s head by ear (side opposite flowers), around eyes near nose, and on the re- ceding right side of chest by right leg (see photo). Using liner, paint in nose and mouth.
Snow (Titanium) White: Using scruffy brush, stipple highlights on top of head, top of each ear, chest and back. Add thin lined highlight stroke on top of nose and TINY highlight dots in each eye. Using a script liner brush, place Snow (Titanium) White dots around entire lamb edge.
Lamp (Ebony) Black: Using script liner brush, dot Lamp (Ebony) Black around outside edge of lamb. Keep this really fine and soft. Notice how this is a broken or dotted line, not a continuous line. This technique creates the fuzzy look of the lamb’s fur. Also, do this inside top of ears and inner bone of each eye socket (see photo).
Light Avocado: Shade each grass stem and leaf.
Thermal Green: Highlight each grass stem and leaf with liner brush. Mustard Seed: Shade each daffodil, separating petals and center cup and lining a vein down each petal.
Melon: Shade the center cup of each flower.
Light Buttermilk: Highlight each flower, stem and leaf.
Scorching Yellow+Snow (Titanium) White (1:tch). Place highlight in center cups of each flower and on each petal in center of each SIDE of each petal (there’s a center vein of Mustard Seed going down the center of each petal). Lamp (Ebony) Black: Using script liner brush and thinned paint, finely out- line each stem, leaf and flower.
Glorious Gold: Using script liner brush, add highlight strokes randomly on flowers. Paint gold outline around blue oval.
