Spring brings new beginnings. Painting an oval shape on an oval shape presented a new challenge for me. My Silver State Tole and Decorative Painters Las Vegas SDP Chapter President, Gwen Palmer, passed out little wooden eggs to members a couple months prior to the spring picnic, challenging everyone to paint them to be judged and exchanged at the meeting. Who can resist a challenge? Certainly not me! I already had two wooden eggs in my stash – one smaller and one larger. I decided to aim for a set of three. I began with Gwen’s egg and chose a little lamb for its decoration. Someday the smaller one will have bunnies on it and the larger one a bird ... someday. In the meantime, I am pleased to share with you my “winning” egg with my first ever lamb on it, painted on my first ever egg – both appropriate for a season of firsts. May this season of new beginnings bring you fresh ideas and new adventures.
Warmly, Nanette
PREPARATION
Use DecoArt Multi-Purpose Sealer to seal egg; sand when dry. Remove dust.
Paint egg Lamp (Ebony) Black.
Transfer oval shape. Truth be told, I sketched this oval in with a chalk pencil until I was happy with its shape. Transferring an oval shape onto an oval shape is nearly impossible as the pattern can’t form perfectly to the curved surface of the egg. Do your best, eras- ing and adjusting the oval until you’re happy with it – it’ll take a few tries and the use of an eraser.
Paint in the oval shape with Blue Chiffon.
Trace the pattern onto tracing paper for future use.
Using blue transfer paper, transfer the basic shape of the lamb,
grass and flowers, leaving off details.
Using the white transfer paper, line up the overlapping daffodil
at “A” and transfer the rest of the flowers and grass onto the egg.
