This design is created in four steps: basecoat box, tracing or freehand the pattern and curved line onto box, create the multi- colored background, and create scrollwork.
Flowers are numbered 1B to 4B. Leaves are numbered 1C to 3C. Please refer to photo of finished projects as your visual color aid.
BACKGROUND
Refer to the Step-by Steps on page 89 throughout this project. STEP 1A: Basecoat entire box using the skywash brush and Ultra Blue Deep. Apply two coats, allowing drying time between coats. STEP 2A: Using a white chalk pencil, create the curved dividing line by tracing the pattern or freehand a curved line onto the box. STEP 3A: Using a bunched piece of paper towel, create a pouncer or dabber. Start dabbing Lamp (Ebony) Black onto one side of curved dividing line on top of box as well as down each side, followed by Wild Orchid, Dioxazine Purple, and finishing with Emperor’s Gold. Use a light touch when dabbing and blending the background col- ors; it’s easy to over-blend. Allow every color to show a little.
STEP 4A: Scrolls are created by using the 10/0 liner and dagger striper brushes. Start with the liner brush double-dipped into Lamp (Ebony) Black, double-dipped in Emperor’s Gold, overlapped in a select few places with Turquoise Blue. The dagger striper brush is used for the larger, wider strokes of Emperor’s Gold overlapped with Turquoise Blue.
