gingerbread sections with Krylon Workable Fixatif, and then allow them to dry completely. Again using the half- inch tape, gently mask off the bottom of the midsections (where they meet the gingerbread sections) and the same half-inch of the bottoms of the gingerbread sections that were masked before spraying. With scissors, cut the Loew- Cornell sponge in half. Load half of the sponge with Glaze Mix, offloading excess paint onto the palette. Stipple this evenly over the tan basecoat, referring to the picture of the Stippled Background on page 139 for an idea of what it should look like. Use the edge of the sponge to get into the crevices. Remove tape and allow this to dry. Spray with Krylon Workable Fixatif, and then allow it to dry com- pletely. The checkerboard pattern around the bottoms will be applied later.
GINGERBREAD COUPLE
Transfer the gingerbread patterns. You can also apply them freehand, using the pattern as a guide. With Warm White on the no. 10/0 liner, apply the gingerbread icing by lightly going over the pattern lines of both bodies and the pockets on the female.
basecoat the noses with Cinnamon Drop. Using the no. 10/0 liner with water-thinned Graphite, paint the mouth. STEP 2: With Milk Chocolate on the 1⁄4" angle, float light shades on both the inside and outside of all icing, and around eyes. Rinse the brush, pick up Warm White, and float light highlights on the left half of each eye. Using the 1⁄4" angular with Pink Mix, float a highlight on the top of the nose. Load the dry 1/8" deerfoot stippler with Cinna- mon Drop, offloading excess paint onto a paper towel, and lightly stipple the cheeks. Using Pink Mix apply a highlight to the cheeks if desired, although they are not shown in the Step-by-Step picture.
STEP 3: With Warm White on the no. 10/0 liner, go over the icing again, making it a bit wider and more opaque. Using the 1⁄4" anglular with water-thinned Warm White, float highlights above the mouth and under the eyes. With Warm White on the no. 10/0 liner, add comma-stroke highlights inside the eyes, a dot in each cheek, and a line and dot to the tops of the noses. With the no. 10/0 liner with water-thinned Graphite, give both gingerbread peo- ple eyebrows and apply eyelashes to the female.
BUTTONS
Solidly basecoat the peppermint buttons with Warm White on the no. 2 round. Using the 1⁄4" angle with Graph- ite to float shading around the outer perimeter of each but- ton. With Green Mix on the no. 10/0 liner, apply the green stripes. Use Forest Green to shade the outer edge of each.
