STEP 2: Add the final highlight on the center of the pot’s
rim and on the word Mushroom with Titanium White using the liner. If necessary, pick up some of the Dark Background Mix and float back the shadows on the sides and bottom of the pot. The same can be done next to the
mushroom that sits in front of the pot.
STEP 3: Add the lettering on the pot with the Dark Back- ground Mix using the short liner.
GARLIC CHEF
Follow the same instructions that were used for the gar- lic with faces. Using the liner, apply a wash of Yellow Light to the shadow areas of the chef ’s hat.
Follow the instructions used with the small bowl to paint the wooden spoon.
For the mushrooms in the pot, follow the instructions used for the other mushrooms. The remaining background color be- comes the broth. Add a very light highlight to the mushrooms
in the pot.
FINISHING
Allow the piece to dry completely, and then gently erase any remaining pattern lines. Apply two or three coats of Jo Sonja’s Satin Varnish, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Sign
your piece.

Sue Pedersen has always loved art, and took art classes in high school and college. Even when she was con- centrating on marriage and a family, she always found a way to take workshops and classes. Carl Larson, the teacher of one of those classes, introduced her to the wonderful world of Baurenmalerei. She also enjoyed classes taught by Michele Walton cda and Jo Sonja Jansen mda, who woke up her sense of creativity, whimsy, and original design. In 1999, she joined SDP and began to teach classes. She currently resides in Gilroy, Calif., with Ron, her husband of forty years. Sue is a member of Monterey Peninsula Decorative Artists, Toling Belles of Santa Clara County, and Northern California Decorative Artists. She teaches classes at BookSmart in Morgan Hill, Calif.
