In Memory
Barbara (Bratt) Andrews, an SDP member, passed away in May 2017. She was a member of the Middle Tennessee Decorative Artists and resided in Lebanon, Tenn.
Bonnie Black, an SDP member since 2013, passed away in January 2017. She was a member of the Central LA Decorative Painters and resided in Alexandria, La.
Barbara Duke, an SDP member since 2010, passed away in April 2017. She was a member of the Middle Tennessee Decorative Artists and resided in Tullahoma, Tenn.
Joan Gleason of Bound Brook, N.J., member of the Brushing Violets Decorative Painters, passed away on April 21, 2017, after a brief illness. She was born on October 25, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pa., moving to New Jersey in 1969.
Joan joined Brushing Violets in January of 1993. She was a very active 22-year member,
serving the chapter as secretary from 1999-2000
and as president from 2001-2002. Joan chaired and served on many committees, including organizing several field trips for the group to New York City and most recently she was our “Sunshine Lady” from 2005 until her illness.
Joan had a great love for the arts, not only teaching at the chapter, but she shared this passion by teaching children at a local studio and at a local arts and crafts shop. She loved learning new things and sharing
what she learned. She served as the Director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for the Somerset
County’s Office on Aging, and in 2015 she was recognized by the Somerset County
Freeholders during Older
Those we love
Americans Month with the Profiles of Aging Award, given to adults who contribute to their communities in many different ways. Joan was an avid participant in all of our programs and seminars and had attended SDP conventions and many religious icon painting retreats.
Joan was a lady of tremendous faith which was evident in all that she did. She was active not only with the chapter, but in her community and her church where she volunteered at the parish office, taught pre-school religious education, and was a Eucharistic minister.
Her accomplishments and contributions are a testament to the wonderful, generous, and caring individual that she was, who always wanted to make each person she met feel important. Her contagious smile and warmth will always be remembered.
She is missed.
