SCENERY OF WHITE ROSES
JUNKO TANAKA mda
My inspiration always comes from the 17th century old masters’ paintings. I very much admire their dramatic composition, breathtaking colors, and exquisite details. In this painting I tried creating beautiful flowers and also to recreate the atmosphere, the aroma, and the feelings as if you were there to enjoy the roses.
COLOR MIXES
I like to paint with very limited color. I believe by working with a limited color palette, it is easier to make colors harmonize. However, sometimes it is convenient to have some colors mixed if you use them frequently.
Black Mix: French Ultramarine+Burnt Umber (1:1)
Warm White Mix: Titanium White+Cadmium Yellow Pale (1:tch) Warm Gray Mix: Warm White Mix+Black Mix (1:tch)
Cool Gray Mix: Titanium White+Black+French Ultramarine (1:tch:tch) Warm Green Mix: Cadmium Yellow Pale+French Ultramarine (1:1) Cool Green Mix: Cadmium Yellow Pale+French Ultramarine (1:2)
PREPARATION
Put a small amount of Winsor & Newton Liquin Original Medium in a small container. Dab your large flat blush in the Liquin and pick up some Burnt Sienna.
Put this wash on the entire surface very thinly. You don’t need to worry about any brush marks and just use a tiny bit of paint. The purpose is to knock out any white area. You want to have a toned white background. Let it dry.
