LET’S PAINT STEP 1 UNDERPAINTING
Transfer the design and only the outline of roses and leaves.
Dip the no. 4 filbert in Liquin and pick up Burnt Sienna. Us- ing only Burnt Sienna, paint the entire design according to the values. Please refer to Step-by-Step 1 on page 45 and the black and white photos. When you want to paint lighter, dilute the paint with Liquin. Use more paint and less Liquin where you need more darks. You can paint with very rough strokes and don’t need to think about any blending. Use a crumbled paper towel and wipe off the paint from the lightest areas of the roses and leaves.
The purpose of this stage is for you to think about which elements are darker or lighter. Also please think about the light source, the direction of the lights, and the flow of the lights. In this painting I set the light source on the upper left side.
Let the paint dry completely.
