CHALK PAINT
PREPARATION
Gently clean the old suitcase by using a mix of water and TSP cleaning solution to remove all old residue and then allow it to dry thoroughly. Decide where you want the appliqués to be placed. Set the appliqués in place and using a soft pencil trace around the shape of each appliqués. Now using a good adhesive put some onto the underside of each appliqué and also on the inside of each traced area. Allow to set up for about 5 minutes. Press each appliqué into place using light pressure. Check to be sure all edges are pressed down firmly and sealed.
Refer to Judy’s Techique Sheet for helpful information while painting on page 56.
BASECOAT
Using the flat shader, apply two coats of Burgundy, allow- ing the first coat to completely dry (about 30 minutes) be- fore applying the second coat. Apply one coat of Clear Wax to seal the painted surface. Apply one coat of Dark Wax to age the surface, allowing the wax to rest within the areas of your appliqués. Buff lightly with a shop cloth to seal and give a nice satin sheen to the finish.
