 In Memory
Gladys Caulfield cda, member of Indy Decorative Artists, passed away in September 2013. She resided in Indianapolis, Ind.
At the age of nineteen, she hosted her own radio show called Sing-a-long with Gladys Lee. She also enjoyed singing in three church choirs in Indianapolis. In 1950, Gladys married her sweetheart, Tom, and together they raised six children.
Gladys took pride in everything she did. She spent several years teaching art, painted several pieces of clothing for our chapter’s yearly fashion show at the Indiana State Fair, and painted squares for our fundraiser quilts. In 2004, one of her ornaments hung on the White House Christmas tree.
Gladys will be missed by her family and friends.

Pegi had several designs printed in the pages of The Decorative Painter, and she also painted ornaments for Blair House, The Smithsonian, and The White House.
Pegi resided in Greensboro, N.C., where she was active in her church’s choir, hospitality committee, and many other ministries. She was a very talented oil and watercolor artist, often working with Karen Patton to create outstanding portraits of her family.

Colleen Middleton, SDP member since 1987 and past president of the Pacific Coast Artists chapter, passed away on January 15, 2014. She resided in Costa Mesa, Calif.
Dorothy Miller. In May 2013, Dorothy Miller, one of Penn’s Woods Painters charter members, passed away, just before her ninety-seventh birthday. As her son and daughter have reminded us, Dorothy always looked forward to the PWP Annual Tea and Art Show. She enjoyed
painting throughout her life, and continued to do so through the end of 2012.
Dorothy was devoted in her participation in the PWP Memory Box program. She loved children with all her heart, and the thought of the mothers and fathers who have lost their babies upset her deeply. Even though, toward the end, Dorothy struggled with holding a brush, one of her last projects was painting a Memory Box.
Dorothy’s home allowed her a magnificent view of
a local waterway, which provided numerous sources of inspiration for her paintings. Birds were, not surprisingly, one of her favorites.
Dorothy said that her entire life had been guided by the Ten Commandments, and that she remembered reading somewhere that Jesus had added one more at the Last Supper— “love one another as I have loved you.” That is how she lived her life, with honor, dignity, and love.
Even though Dorothy realized that time moves forward and people and places change, she was a faithful supporter of both PWP and SDP, and all their members. Dorothy was a wonderfully gracious woman, and we are honored that she was part of our organization for so long. —Submitted by Hilary Felinski
