PREPARATION
Sand the entire wooden surface. Remove any sanding de- bris with a tack cloth.
Draw an imaginary diagonal line from the upper left of the box to the lower right (this includes the sides of the box). This line will separate the box into two halves; the left half will have a darker basecoat, and the right half will have a lighter basecoat.
Basecoat the left half of the box (where the scroll design will be created) with Lilac. Basecoat the right half of the box with Soft Heather. Blend lightly where the colors meet. Let dry. Apply a second basecoat to both sides and blend. Allow to dry.
Paint the rims that ring the perimeter of the lid and the base of the box with three coats of Emperor’s Gold, allowing each coat to dry before the next is applied. Now, allow the entire piece to dry.
Trace the design onto transfer paper, and then place the transfer paper on the lid’s surface. Secure the paper with tape in only one area. Slide the carbon paper (carbon side down) between the surface and the tracing paper, and transfer the design with the fine point of the stylus.
The design on the sides of the jewelry box will be ap- plied later.
